Our Method
Mem is the first reality in Italy that brings together housing professionals with therapists,
researchers, educators, and consultants: a multidisciplinary network of professionals who believe in the value of artificial space to improve the psychological and physical wellbeing and the quality of life of those who inhabit it daily.
BASICS
Method
We apply science-based tools such as the Bolten–Barbiero Protocol and the BQI – Biophilic Quality Index. It is not just a matter of theoretical models, but rather concrete criteria that enable us to measure and guide every stage of the design process. We are the first in Italy to have adopted them consistently, building up unique experience over the years which guarantees precision and reliability in our projects.
Experience
Each project takes shape by listening carefully to people and co-designing with the many
stakeholders involved. This approach focuses on the real wellbeing of those who live and inhabit the spaces, creating places that do not only meet functional needs, but are also designed to stimulate positive emotions and improve the quality of daily life.
Movement
By mem, design does not conclude with the creation of space: it continues through communication. We tell the story of the change that has been generated, making it clear and accessible to individuals, communities, and territories. In the process, the project becomes a cultural movement able to amplify its impact, spread awareness, and generate collective value.

Alla base del metodo MeM è presente un comitato tecnico composto da quattro professionisti di rilievo nazionale e internazionale.
The MeM method is supported by a technical committee of four nationally and internationally renowned professionals.
Their expertise ranges from environmental psychology to evolutionary biology, from colour to neuroscience, to communication and design.
This multidisciplinary team provides companies and architectural firms with personalised, direct consulting services, turning design requirements into practical solutions.
These evidence-based approaches create regenerative spaces that improve work quality, productivity and employee
satisfaction.

TOOLS
Bolten-Barbiero Protocol
The strength of the MeM method stems from science-based tools that guide design towards regenerative outcomes. The Bolten–Barbiero Protocol translates the principles of Biophilic Design into concrete design criteria.
Biophilic
Quality Index
The Biophilic Quality Index (BQI; Berto and Barbiero, 2017) assesses the biophilic quality of spaces objectively, before and after renovation. It also is a certification tool that proves the efficacy of the project.
Communication
Communication is an essential part of the method: it narrates the outcomes with clear and transparent data, countering greenwashing and providing genuine visibility to the projects. In order to inform with awareness.
Result
This integrated approach enhances reliability and strengthens projects. The result is
measurable and lasting transformations that generate value for people, communities and
territories.
